CANBERRA STADIUM - Canberra (ACT)
TCanberra Stadium was selected as a host venue for the Olympic soccer tournament in September 2000. After the existing turf had failed to meet FIFA standards, HG Turf was called in at the 11th hour to fix the problem. The works involved stripping the existing turf from the field and installing 8,000m2 of Motz Stabilized Turf.
Fortunately for Canberra and the Olympic soccer tournament, HG Turf had a spare field of Motz Stabilised Turf growing in Victoria. Incredibly the company was able to mobilise and install the new field after the MCG Olympic soccer pitch installation and before the Olympic Stadium athletic field installation, all within a three week period.
HG Turf was also responsible for maintaining the turf for the duration of the Olympics events.
Canberra Stadium’s current tenants are the ACT Brumbies (Rugby Union) and the Canberra Raiders (Rugby League). In 2001 Canberra Stadium hosted 75 games on its new Motz Stabilised surface (Union, League & Soccer) with most of the games being played in Canberra’s notoriously cold, winter months.
