High Performance Gravity Field System

High Performance Gravity (HPG) is the newest introduction in sports field systems. It was developed by the Motz Group in cooperation with drainage engineers and soil physicists to meet the needs of a wide market segment and represents the next generation in gravity drained athletic field systems.

HPG’s performance criteria are defined from the perspective of the client, with strong emphasis placed on quality, economy and versatility.

Patented components of The Motz Group’s world-class Prescription Athletic Turf™ system are at the base of HPG’s unique drainage design while the natural turf above delivers the very latest technology in synthetically stabilized playing surfaces.

THE DESIGN INTENT OF THE HPG FIELD SYSTEM:

  • An all-weather natural turf surface, stabilized to withstand intensive use and to provide a safe consistent playing surface for various sports and entertainment activities.
  • A high performance drainage system that disposes of water at 100mm per hour and subsequent hours, for a period greater than 10 years.
  • A sand-based root zone, providing a superior cultural environment for growing turf, incorporating a moisture-controlled perched water table.
  • A flat field, for the benefit of players, spectators and the maintenance team.
  • A state-of-the-art irrigation system, offering individual head control, with moisture sensors and weather station.
  • A grass surface consisting of species most suited to the Stadium’s microclimate and event schedule.
  • A proven turf replacement system, expedient to install and remove, ensuring the stadium’s event schedule is maintained without disruption.

HPG’s MAJOR DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION COMPONENTS:

1. The field is excavated to a depth of 400mm below finish grade, with the floor of the field made perfectly flat.

2. Trenched into the floor of the field is an intensive matrix of drainpipe and patented transition fittings that allow for a low profile installation. The matrix connects directly into the facility’s stormwater discharge system.

3. Once the matrix is in place and the overhead irrigation system is installed, the 400mm profile is built with processed gravel and then sand that meet exacting specifications for sizing and gradation. The sand is laser graded to provide a perfectly flat field.

4. The playing surface consists of a sand-filled mat made from synthetic fibres tufted into a woven biodegradable backing. The mat can be installed directly onto the prepared surface and seeded or sprigged in place or grown on a turf farm and brought to the site in a ready-to-play condition.

5. Construction can be completed in as little as five weeks, compared to other systems requiring up to twice as long.
